Canon imageCLASS MF275dw Cost to Run: The Price of Keeping Fax and Scan
The Canon imageCLASS MF275dw is a mono laser printer that prints, copies, scans and faxes, with automatic duplexing and Wi-Fi built in. It sells for $238, and running it in black costs $4.28 per 100 pages, priced off its CN-071H-BK cartridge — $107 for a rated 2,500 pages.
Among the mono laser printers InkTax tracks, that $4.28 rate ranks 6th of 23 on black cost per page. The nearest rival on running cost, Brother's HL-L2400D, sits just above the MF275dw in that ranking at $4.33 per 100 pages, essentially even with it. The Brother costs $120, well under the Canon's price, but it only prints — no copier, scanner or fax — and it confirms neither Wi-Fi nor Ethernet, both of which the MF275dw carries.
The HP LaserJet Pro 4006dw holds the black cost-per-page floor among mono laser printers InkTax tracks, at $2.23 per 100 pages. It costs $400 up front — more than the Canon — and it prints as well, but skips the copying, scanning and faxing the Canon offers, while adding a touchscreen the MF275dw lacks. It also runs at 47 ppm, well ahead of the MF275dw's 30 ppm.
Within Canon's own lineup, the imageCLASS MF264dw II costs $229 and runs at $4.43 per 100 pages, within a few cents of the MF275dw's rate, though its touchscreen is one the MF275dw doesn't have. The imageCLASS LBP172dw drops further to $216 and is slightly cheaper to run, at $3.68 per 100 pages, but it prints only, leaving out the scan, copy and fax functions built into the MF275dw.
