Canon PIXMA G3270 Ink Cost Per Page: A Class-Leading Tank, Compared

The Canon PIXMA G3270 is an ink tank printer that prints, copies and scans over Wi-Fi, with no auto-duplex and no touchscreen. It sells for $249 and runs at $0.38 per 100 pages in black and $0.97 per 100 pages in color, the black rate drawn from the $23 CN-GI21-BK bottle rated for 6,000 pages. That black rate ties for 6th of 30 ink tank printers InkTax tracks, an eight-way tie, while the color rate ties for 1st of 30, a five-way tie for the color running-cost floor in that class.

Climb Canon's own tank lineup and the Canon PIXMA G3290 at $270 adds auto-duplex and a touchscreen, both missing on the G3270. The Canon PIXMA G4280 sits between them at $280, tied on both rates. The Canon PIXMA G6020 goes further at $324, adding Ethernet as well as duplex.

Outside Canon, the Epson EcoTank ET-2980 undercuts the G3270 on black cost per page, $0.29 against $0.38 per 100 pages, but costs more for color at $1.08 per 100 pages and more up front at $330. It also adds auto-duplex, a feature the G3270 doesn't offer.

For a reader who never needs color, the HP LaserJet Pro 4006dw offers a mono laser alternative: $400 up front, print-only with no copy or scan, but far faster at 47 ppm against the G3270's 11 ppm, and it adds Ethernet, duplex and a touchscreen. Its toner costs $2.23 against the G3270's $0.38 per 100 pages in black — far higher, and the speed and connectivity come at that running-cost premium.
