Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3820 Ink Cost Per Page and Cost to Run

The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3820 is a color inkjet all-in-one — print, copy, scan and fax, with automatic duplexing, Wi-Fi and a touchscreen — priced at $200. Running costs come to $4.36 per 100 pages in black and $14.45 per 100 pages in color.

That black rate comes from the EP-822XL-BK cartridge, $48 for a rated 1,100 pages. On color cost per page, the WF-3820 ties for 5th of 31 inkjet printers InkTax tracks.

Within Epson's own WorkForce Pro line, stepping up to the WF-7820 ($330) or down to the print-only WF-7310 ($280) both land on $3.95 per 100 pages in black and $14.04 per 100 pages in color — cheaper to run than the WF-3820, though pricier up front, and the WF-7310 drops copy, scan and fax entirely.

The Canon MAXIFY MB2720 matches the WF-3820's full function set — print, copy, scan, fax, plus a touchscreen — while running cheaper on ink: $4.17 per 100 pages in black and $13.16 per 100 pages in color, the lowest ink rates among the 31 inkjet printers InkTax tracks, for $216 up front.

For heavier color printing, the Canon PIXMA G3270 tank printer trades convenience for ink economics: $249 up front but $0.38 per 100 pages in black and $0.97 per 100 pages in color, a fraction of the WF-3820's rates. It drops fax, has no auto-duplex, and skips the touchscreen.
