The Epson WorkForce WF-2950 is an inkjet all-in-one that prints, copies, scans and faxes, with Wi-Fi and automatic duplex printing built in. It sells for $80. Running it costs $9.73 per 100 pages in black and $29.64 per 100 pages in color.
The black rate comes from Epson's EP-232XL-BK cartridge, which costs $37 and is rated for 380 pages — a cost per page that ties the WF-2950 for 20th of 31 inkjet printers InkTax tracks on black-and-white cost per page, a rate one other model also hits. Color costs far more to run, at $29.64 per 100 pages, which places the WF-2950 26th of the same 31 inkjets, tied there with one other model as well.
Within Epson's own lineup, the Epson Expression Home XP-4205 sells for $60 and posts the same $9.73 and $29.64 per 100 pages rates for black and color, but it drops fax, keeping only print, copy and scan.
The Canon MAXIFY MB2720 is the running-cost floor among inkjet printers InkTax tracks, at $4.17 per 100 pages in black and $13.16 in color, and it prints far faster too — 24 ppm against the WF-2950's 10 ppm. It costs $216 up front, well above the WF-2950's $80 sticker, and adds a touchscreen and Ethernet the WF-2950 lacks.
For anyone chasing lower ink costs, the Canon PIXMA G3270 — a tank printer that refills from bottles instead of cartridges — runs at $0.38 per 100 pages in black and $0.97 in color, far below the WF-2950 on both counts. It costs $249 up front, though, and drops fax and auto-duplex, leaving print, copy and scan on a single-sided path.
