HP Envy 6555e Ink Cost Per Page: What It Really Costs to Run
The HP Envy 6555e is an HP inkjet all-in-one that prints, copies, scans and faxes, with automatic duplexing, Wi-Fi and a built-in touchscreen. It lists for $180. Running costs are steep for the class: $16.87 per 100 pages in black and $39.36 per 100 pages in color.
That black rate traces to HP's own HP-68-BK cartridge, which lists for $27 and is rated for just 160 pages — a small cartridge for a modern all-in-one. The result puts the 6555e last among the 97 printers InkTax tracks on black-and-white cost per page, and it ties with one other model for 30th of 31 inkjet printers InkTax tracks on color cost per page.
Within HP's own lineup, the DeskJet 2855e undercuts it at $90 up front, with black running $15.00 per 100 pages and color $33.49 — close to the Envy's own rates — but it drops duplexing, the touchscreen and fax. Stepping up to the Envy Inspire 7255e costs $200, forgoes fax, but prints at 15 ppm against the 6555e's 10 ppm and cuts running costs to $10.50 per 100 pages in black and $27.12 in color.
Among inkjet printers InkTax tracks, the running-cost floor belongs to the Canon MAXIFY MB2720: $216 up front, but $4.17 per 100 pages in black and $13.16 in color, a 24 ppm engine, and Ethernet alongside its Wi-Fi and touchscreen for a wired office.
For color-heavy printing, the tank-based Canon PIXMA G3270 is the sharper break: $249 up front against the Envy's $180, but ink costs drop to $0.38 per 100 pages in black and $0.97 in color. It gives up duplexing, the touchscreen and fax to get there.
