HP LaserJet M209dw Ink Cost Per Page and Where It Ranks

Inside the mono laser class, the running-cost floor belongs to the HP LaserJet Pro 4006dw, at $2.23 per 100 pages against the M209dw's $4.37. That floor costs $400 up front, well above the M209dw's $199, and comes with a touchscreen and a far faster engine — 47 ppm to the M209dw's 30 ppm.
That $4.37 black rate ties for 15th of 23 mono laser printers InkTax tracks, a four-way tie that runs entirely inside HP's own lineup. Step down to the LaserJet M209d and the price falls to $159 with the same running cost, but Wi-Fi and Ethernet disappear. Step up to the LaserJet MFP M234dw and $239 adds copy and scan alongside that same $4.37 per 100 pages.
Brother's rivals undercut the HP on both counts. The HL-L2400D sells for $120 and runs at $4.33 per 100 pages, print-only like the M209dw but without Wi-Fi or Ethernet. The HL-L2460DW closes that gap — duplexing, Wi-Fi and Ethernet included — for $160, still $4.33 per 100 pages.
