The Epson Expression Home XP-5200 is an inkjet all-in-one that prints, copies and scans, with automatic duplexing and Wi-Fi, for $150. Running costs land at $7.27 per 100 pages in black and $25.09 in color. The black figure traces to Epson's EP-222XL-BK cartridge, priced at $40 for a 550-page yield.
The starkest comparison isn't another inkjet at all. Canon's PIXMA G3270, a refillable-ink tank printer, costs $249 up front — well above the XP-5200's sticker — but runs at just $0.38 per 100 pages in black and $0.97 in color, a fraction of the XP-5200's own rates.
Within Epson's own range, stepping up to the $250 Expression Premium XP-7100 cuts running costs to $5.72 per 100 pages in black and $15.87 in color, adding a touchscreen and Ethernet the XP-5200 lacks. Stepping down costs more to run: the $60 Expression Home XP-4205 and the $80 WorkForce WF-2950 both land at $9.73 black and $29.64 color, a rate the two share.
