Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 Cost to Run: Cheaper Alternatives at Every Turn
The Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 is a touchscreen inkjet all-in-one that prints, copies and scans, selling for $250. Black pages run $5.72 per 100 pages, driven by the EP-410XL-BK cartridge at $29 for 500 pages, while color climbs to $15.87 per 100 pages.
That $29 cartridge yields just 500 pages, and it shows: the XP-7100 ranks 75th of 97 printers InkTax tracks across every type on black-and-white cost per page, near the bottom overall. Its color rate fares better, 10th of 31 inkjet printers, in the top third of the class.
Epson's own WorkForce Pro WF-4820 costs the same $250 but runs cheaper — $4.36 per 100 pages black, $14.45 color — while adding fax and printing at 25 ppm against the XP-7100's 15.8 ppm. The WF-3820, at $200, and the WF-4830, at $280, share that identical rate.
HP's OfficeJet Pro 9135e and 8135e sit on either side of the XP-7100 on color cost per page — $15.25 and $16.54 against its $15.87, close enough to call a wash — but prices split sharply: $430 for the 9135e and $230 for the 8135e, against the Epson's $250. Both share HP's $3.80 black rate, well under the XP-7100's $5.72, and add fax where the Epson has none.
The Canon MAXIFY MB2720 sets the inkjet running-cost floor at $4.17 black and $13.16 color per 100 pages, selling for $216 and printing at 24 ppm against the XP-7100's 15.8 ppm. It adds fax too.
A tank-based alternative undercuts all of them: the Canon PIXMA G3270 runs $0.38 per 100 pages black from ink bottles and $0.97 color, at a $249 price close to the XP-7100's own. It drops duplex and the touchscreen, lacks Ethernet, though it keeps Wi-Fi.
