HP DeskJet 4255e Cost Per Page and Cost to Run in HP's Lineup
The HP DeskJet 4255e is an inkjet all-in-one that prints, copies and scans over Wi-Fi, though it has no auto-duplex or touchscreen. It sells for $110. Running costs are steep for the class: $15.00 per 100 pages in black and $33.49 per 100 pages in color. The black figure comes from HP's HP-67XL-BK cartridge, $36 for a 240-page yield.
Within HP's own range, stepping up tends to cost ink rather than save it. The Envy 6155e adds fax, auto-duplex and a touchscreen for $140, but its cartridges run $16.87 per 100 pages in black and $39.36 per 100 pages in color — a rate its sibling Envy 6555e also matches at $180. The Envy Inspire 7255e, at $200, breaks that pattern: black falls to $10.50 per 100 pages and color to $27.12 per 100 pages, with duplex and a touchscreen added and a faster 15 pages a minute against the DeskJet's 8.5.
On black cost per page, the DeskJet 4255e ranks 95th of 97 printers InkTax tracks across every type it covers. The Canon MAXIFY MB2720 sets the running-cost floor among the 31 inkjet printers InkTax tracks: $4.17 per 100 pages in black and $13.16 per 100 pages in color, with fax, auto-duplex, Ethernet and a touchscreen added, and a much faster 24 pages a minute against the DeskJet's 8.5. It costs $216 up front against the DeskJet's $110.
Epson's Expression Home XP-4205 costs less to buy, at $60, and less to run too: $9.73 per 100 pages in black and $29.64 per 100 pages in color, with the same print, copy, scan set plus auto-duplex, which the DeskJet lacks.
For a reader who prints in real volume, the Canon PIXMA G3270 is the sharper turn: a refillable tank machine at $249 that runs $0.38 per 100 pages in black and $0.97 per 100 pages in color, with the same print, copy, scan functions and, like the DeskJet, no auto-duplex.
