Brother MFC-L2760DW Cost to Run: a Common Rate, Not the Floor
The Brother MFC-L2760DW is a mono laser all-in-one — print, copy, scan and fax — with automatic duplexing and Wi-Fi built in. It sells for $190. Black-and-white pages run $4.33 per 100 pages, a rate that folds in both the TN830XL cartridge, around $98 for 3,000 pages, and wear on the $158 drum rated for 15,000 pages.
Within Brother's own lineup, that $4.33 per 100 pages rate is far from unique: it ties for 7th of 23 mono laser printers InkTax tracks on black cost per page, a rate seven other models match, three of them Brother's own — the HL-L2400D, HL-L2405W and HL-L2460DW. Those three sell for $120, $120 and $160, all cheaper up front, but strip out copy, scan and fax entirely, leaving bare print-only machines. The HL-L2400D also lacks Wi-Fi and the HL-L2405W lacks auto-duplex, real losses since the MFC-L2760DW has both. The HL-L2460DW keeps duplex and Wi-Fi and adds Ethernet, which the MFC-L2760DW lacks.
Its nearest rival from outside Brother is HP's LaserJet line: the M209d, M209dw and M234dw mono lasers all run $4.37 per 100 pages, essentially even with the Brother's $4.33. The M234dw comes closest on functions, with print, copy and scan for $239, but no fax — a function the MFC-L2760DW keeps — and it sells for more than the Brother's $190. The M209dw, at $199, adds Ethernet; both machines already have Wi-Fi.
The running-cost floor among mono laser printers InkTax tracks belongs to HP's LaserJet Pro 4006dw, at $2.23 per 100 pages — well below the MFC-L2760DW's $4.33. That machine costs $400 up front and prints only, but it pairs a touchscreen with a top speed of 47 ppm, far faster than the Brother's 30 ppm.
