Canon MAXIFY GX7120 Ink Cost Per Page: Cheap Against a Laser, Middling Among Tanks
The Canon MAXIFY GX7120 is an ink tank printer that prints, copies, scans and faxes, with auto-duplex, Wi-Fi and a touchscreen. It sells for $864. Running costs come to $0.52 in black and $1.31 in color, per 100 pages. Canon's $31 CN-GI26-BK black bottle, rated for 6,000 pages, produces that black figure.
HP's LaserJet Pro 4006dw, a mono laser, sells for $400 and prints only, without the GX7120's copy, scan or fax. Its toner costs $2.23 per 100 pages in black, far above the GX7120's $0.52. The 4006dw reaches 47 ppm, far faster than the GX7120's 24 ppm.
Canon's own MAXIFY GX3020 sells for $432, far less than the GX7120's price. The GX7120 ties for 19th on black cost per page among the 30 ink tank printers InkTax tracks, a spot the GX3020's identical rate shares, along with one other model. The GX3020 drops the GX7120's fax and touchscreen, keeping print, copy and scan, and tops out at 18 ppm.
Canon's own PIXMA G3270 is the ink tank running-cost floor: $0.38 in black and $0.97 in color per 100 pages, for $249 up front. It has no auto-duplex or touchscreen, and prints, copies and scans without fax.
HP's Smart Tank 6003 costs $0.40 in black and $1.22 in color per 100 pages, and sells for $370, cheaper to buy than the GX7120. Like the GX3020, it has no fax or touchscreen, and it tops out at 12 ppm.
